CAASPP Lexile and Quantile Student Score Report

The CAASPP Lexile® and Quantile® Student Score Report is available for students who took the Smarter Balanced Assessments for ELA and Mathematics. The report can be downloaded via the CAASPP Student Score Report PDFs by selecting “Lexile/Quantile” from the “Assessments” list. For instructions to run the report, refer to CAASPP Student Score Report PDFs.

The Lexile and Quantile Frameworks measure both student reading and mathematics ability. A Lexile measure describes the student’s reading performance on a scale from below 0L to above 1600L. The higher the Lexile number, the stronger the reading performance. Lexile measures below 0L start with “BR” for “Beginning Reader.”

A Quantile measure describes the student’s mathematical performance on a scale from below 0Q to above 1600Q. The higher the Quantile number, the stronger the mathematical performance. Quantile measures below 0Q start with “EM” for “Emerging Mathematician.”

The CAASPP Smarter Balanced Student Growth Report includes the Individual Residual Gain score for students who were enrolled in the selected LEA at the end of the 2016–17, 2017–18, or 2018–19 administration year. Only students with valid scores will be included in this report.

The Individual Residual Gain score is a way of measuring a student's growth between the current year and the previous year, which is the difference between the student's expected test score and the student’s actual test score. A student's expected test score is based on the typical score of students in the same grade level who had similar test scores in ELA and mathematics in the previous grade. A data layout for this report can be found on the Score Reporting web page.

More information can be found on the CDE Growth Model web page.
